Looking for an innovative, collaborative, and resourceful Electrical Engineer excited to help create and advance our product portfolio for the smart and connected home. Our Smart Home team is focused on game changing ideas for developing new, innovative products and solutions and we participate primarily in early-stage product development and new product introduction.
Responsibilities:
Develop conceptual and detailed designs for electrical components, subsystems, and systems of varying complexity
Develop detailed new electronic product specifications, including electrical schematics, layouts and component selection
Establish test procedures to ensure conformity to customer use cases
Identify and collaborate with suppliers/vendors and a small team of engineers to help define new product requirements and design concepts for smart, cloud-connected devices
May operate in a lead capacity for development of electrical systems for Internet of Things (IoT) devices including integration into smart home ecosystems
Optimize and maintain current post-release product designs across multiple business units
Leverage technical product expertise to assist/influence product managers, marketing, sales and customer support functions within multiple business units as well as outside vendors
Work through product development process to ensure new products meet schedule and cost targets while meeting both internal and external customer expectations
Participate in design reviews to discuss concepts and proposed product design, engaging with other functional areas of the business to gain input and incorporating those inputs into final design
Continually develop and apply knowledge of emerging technologies related to sensors, communication protocols and cloud services across multiple disciplines within the organization
Utilize in-depth problem solving skills to determine and address root cause as needed
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science - Electrical Engineering
1-3 years engineering experience, preferably in embedded systems design
Experience with circuit design, PCB layout software and component selection
Knowledge or experience in troubleshooting hardware, devices and software
Knowledge of electronic components such as microcontrollers, batteries, wireless modules, sensors, motors, motor control components, wire harnesses and associated connectors, etc.
Strong oral and written communication skills
Self-motivated and able to function with limited oversight
Willing to develop multi-disciplinary engineering skills
Desirable
Qualifications:
Experience working with wireless RF technologies (Zwave, ZigBee, Bluetooth Low Energy, Wi-Fi)
Knowledge of Smart Home, Connected Home and/or Internet-of-Things products and technologies
Knowledge of regulatory standards and processes (UL/ETL, FCC, etc.)
Experience developing cloud-connected devices including familiarity with C, C+
programming and adaptability for multiple development environments
Experience with low voltage power transfer, including battery life optimization, energy harvesting, and wireless power transfer
Window, Door and Accessory Product Knowledge a plus
